Biblical Eschatology Revisited
The Timeline Analysis of the Book of the Revelation – Part 6
We have come a long way since the beginning of this book and as we
explore the last section of the timeline, we find ourselves at the
place where the entire written revelation of God comes together and all
the pain and suffering that was caused by the temptation in the Garden
and the Fall of Man begins to find its resolution. This is why I have
told so many people that Revelation is the nexus and culmination of all
human and redemptive history before it. All things found in it come
together and see their completion and fulfillment here. If we come away
with anything we must understand that the Lord God has gone to great
lengths to love man through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. What we
have already seen is the purging of the world of the evil that was
brought into it and we will see its climax in this section. So let’s
take a look at it.
We need to remember that, redemptively, the Church saw its exit from
the world scene through the results of the 6th seal in chapters 6 &
7 but not without a tremendous amount of trouble before that, the
144,000 of the sons of Israel saw their exit from the world scene in
Chapter 14 as a result of the 7th (and curiously, the last) Trumpet,
and those who have overcome the Beast make their exit in Chapter 15
just before the 7 Bowls of Wrath are poured out upon the Beast and all
his people. We should note here that none of these groups saw “God’s
wrath” being poured out on them. Some witnessed judgment, persecution,
and martyrdom but not God’s wrath. If we notice that the Lord has kept
“His own” from that day. From the releasing of the Bowls of Wrath
onward to the Second Coming, people who still have not worshipped the
Beast or taken his mark will find that the Lord has not forgotten about
them either. We’ll look into that in a moment.
We also need to remember that, punitively, the Beast, the False
Prophet, and the armies that accompany them have met at Armaggeddon for
the war that involves both heaven and earth. The kings and their armies
that join with the Beast have been deceived and deluded into this final
conflict before Christ returns. We have already left Babylon the great
in ruins. Curiously, it is the beast and the 10 kings that are with him
who destroy Babylon the great and this is by the design of God who will
cause them to do this. In considering how this would be an advantage to
the dragon and the Beast, one need only consider that an army that has
nothing to go back to will fight to the death. This certainly will be
needed to keep the armies intent on fighting the King of King and Lord
of Lords. We should not underestimate the fierceness of the battle that will rage at Armaggeddon.
Now with all this, we are prepared to move forward into chapter 19. We
open with four cheers of praise to the Lord God Almighty. The first
cheer is regarding God’s salvation and power that is based on His
judgments that are true and righteous. It refers to the destruction of
Babylon the great which was His avenging the blood of His bond-servants. The second cheer of Hallelujah is regarding the destruction of Babylon
the great that was total and complete, lasting forever. The third
cheer is the from the 24 elders and the 4 living creatures who first
worship and voice agreement with all the previous cheers of
“hallelujah!” A voice comes from the throne of God calling all His
bond servants to praise God and they do and the final cheer goes forth
from the multitude like the sound of many waters, like the sound of
pealing thunder saying … “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the
Almighty, reigns.” Amen, and so will it be…
Yet that is not all they say…
Continuing… they say “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to
Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made
herself ready.” The bride has given fine linen to clothe herself,
bright and clean for this fine linen is the righteous acts of the
saints. (Revelation 19:8) John is told to write “Blessed are those who
are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. These are the true
words of God.” John is further told something very important when he
fell at the feet of the angel to worship.
Then I fell at his feet to worship him But he said to me, "Do not do
that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the
testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the
spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10 (NASB)
The fulfillment of the promise of His Second Coming is now before us…
Heaven opens up and Christ appears riding on a white horse and is
called Faithful and True who judges and wages war in righteousness. We
see a most marvelous description of Him in verses 11-16. In that same
description, the armies of heaven clothed in fine linen, white and
clean, were following Him on white horses. Yet only one weapon is found
among them all. It is the sharp sword that comes out of His mouth and
with it He strikes down the nations and rules them with a rod of iron.
He also treads the winepress of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.
He is indeed the “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS”.
All of the birds that fly are called to eat the flesh of the kings, commanders, mighty men, horses and those who sit on them.
We are left without doubt that these armies are gathered to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
We are not told of the manner of the battle but the result was that the
Beast and the False Prophet was seized and were thrown alive into the
lake of fire which burns with brimstone. The rest were killed with the
sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse and all the
birds were filled with their flesh. Pretty gruesome but we need to
understand the finality and futility of those who resist the Lord and
fight against Him. As we move to chapter 20, the Dragon, who is known as Satan and the
devil, was bound in a chain for 1,000 years in the abyss and its cover
was sealed so that he could not deceive the nations any longer until
the end of the 1,000 years when he would be released for a short time.
Now we see thrones set up and judgment was given to Christ and His
people. At this point, we see the souls who had been beheaded because
of their testimony for Jesus and because of the Word of God and had not
worshipped the beast or his image and had not receive his mark. These
souls came to life and also reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
We see a marvelous thing here. The Lord has not left out a single group
who were faithful to Him. Everyone of His own even right up to the end,
would find themselves alive forevermore with Him.
We should note that all these who are present with Him and reigning
with Him are the “first resurrection” upon whom the second death has no
power. They will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with
Him for a thousand years.
We fast forward 1,000 years and find that Satan is released from the
abyss and come out to deceive the nations and gather for war but the
“final purge of evil” comes and fire comes down from heaven and devours
them. At this point, the devil is thrown into the lake of fire where
the beast and false prophet have already been cast. They all will be
tormented day and night forever and ever. Never again will these
characters cause any more problems in God’s creation.
At this point, there is something that happens here that we might need
to consider from I Corinthians 15:20-28, where we see additional
information that tells us that it is at this point that Christ, the
Son, having put everything under subjection under His feet, yet still
being Himself subject to God the Father will turn it all over to the
Father at that point.
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of
the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made
alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that
those who are Christ's at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands
over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule
and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His
enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He
says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is
excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. When all things are
subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the
One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. I
Corinthians 15:20-28 (NASB)
So we can now understand what fits in between the “last battle” and the Great White Throne Judgment which appears next..
So we see that a great white throne appears and we note Him who sat on
it. Earth and heaven fled away and no place was found for them. As we
note from II Peter 3,
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens
will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with
intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. Since all
these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought
you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the
coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be
destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But
according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new
earth, in which righteousness dwells. II Peter 3:10-13 (NASB)
We next see the “dead” standing before this throne. We noted earlier
that all those who were Christ’s had been resurrected and all of them
were “the first resurrection” and the second death had no power over
them. So these people are the dead that had never been resurrected up
to that point. The sea, death and Hades, give up the dead in them and
all of them were judged according to their deeds. Death and Hades were
thrown into the lake of fire, which is the “second death”. Those not
found in the book of life were thrown into the lake of fire. So it
would appear that what is called the Great White Throne Judgment is for
the “dead” who were not found to be Christ. As to the question if any
of these escape the second death, it is not clearly known at this point
but without any other information, their outlook for escaping looks
pretty dim.
We now find ourselves at the end of biblically revealed time… we see
the appearance of the new heaven and new earth and the former things
have passed away. The new Jerusalem comes down from heaven and God
Himself dwells among men. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes
and there will no longer be any death, no mourning, no crying or pain
because the first things have passed away.
He tells us that all things will be made new. Even as we ourselves have
been made new creatures in Christ when we believe, so now a more
appropriate abode for us is made. Evil folks and evil deeds will not be
found there.
As we read further, we begin to see the “city whose architect and
builder is God”, the city that Abraham was looking for… (Hebrews
11:8-10)
There is much to read here concerning this and the reader is encouraged to do so.
The book wraps up with the declaration that the book is understandable
(Rev 22:10) and the words are not to be tampered with after encouraging
the reader to “Come. And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one
who wishes to take the water of life without cost.”
He closes with… He who testifies to these things says “Yes, I am coming
quickly.” Amen. Come Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with
you all. Amen.…
…and with my whole heart I agree. Amen. Blessings, Mr.Vee

This also means that there are now SIX examples of this going on. Ok, I guess we need to give the scientific community a break. They've just been too busy debunking creationism.
